Profil: Fabio Leal (chromanova / Sao Paulo, Brasil)
Fabio began to be interested in electronic music when he was at the young age of 13,tired of listening to so much dance music that all his friends were into back then and started to search something more intelligent,that wasn't made out of a common success formula,but instead,something that actually had a culture and an ideology as part of it. He started going to underground clubs and open air parties in Sao Paulo,soon to discover his curiosity about the dj work,as he always would pay close attention to everything they were doing with the decks. Then he took dj classes and bought his own equipment,with the objective of really learning and fixing down the basis of dj'ing so afterwards he could improve it and develop his own techniques,through practicing at home.In a short while he already had dominated the knobs and faders which not so long ago seemed to be a treat and also connected himself to the style of music he plays today: psytrance. What brought his attention to psytrance was the history of how it was born,the context in which it developed itself and the culture built around it.Now he had found what he was searching for so long,realizing that Trance was not only music,but also a way of living. He then started to play at several private and friend's parties,where he could acquire the experience needed to take over and drive a dancefloor,since his mixing skills and playlist were already quite improved,so that gave him the extra-confidence to come out and rock like he should at some best known and conceptuaded places. It didn't take long until Fabio would call the attention of some of his friends that had good contacts and began to play at Sao Paulo's finest clubs,amongst them Club A,Sankara,Alki,Venice and also open airs parties like TranceAction,In Trance We Trust,Spirit Moon,Smirnoff Circus,Aldeia Tapai and more...but what really boost his carreer to the sky was the invitation he got to play at “Waves of Sounds” party,hosted by Chromanova,in the beginning of march 2004.With more than 600 people at the location,everybody danced and smiled to his pumping and energetic sound.He also played on 3 parties at the famous MfE Club,where he called the attention of the local scene performing memorable sets and bringing some of the warm brazilian vibe to the ice-cold german nights. His main atributte is a very accurate and precise mixing technique,which is based on the total control he has over the cdj's & mixer.In his own words:”I believe it is not only possible to make the dancefloor go crazy through nice breaks and outstanding build ups,but also with perfect mixes combining the right tracks together,emphatizing all the elements from the intro of the next track through a good technique and respecting the compass.” The style he plays inside psytrance is groove,always very hard and lysergic,having Wrecked Machines,Xnoize,Domestic and Hujaboy as the most notable influences in his set.
